Lawn of weeds

When talking about lawn, the first thought that would come to mind is the type of grass that was laid on it. The common name will include centipede, zoysia, bemuda, and cow grass. But, what about the  lesser known name that would invade the lawn with homogeneous type of grass as earlier mentioned. We certainly would call them "weed" and we will find ways to remove them.

But, if these mix of lesser known grass are frequently maintain, it can also form a beautiful lawn.

The picture below is the backyard of my next door neighbor property. It has been vacant for more than ten years. The property owner stays at other place and use this house as a remote storage space.

Pearl Grass Recovery - Part 2

It has been a month since I last wrote an article on pearl grass recovery. So, here's the second part – the progress of recovery.

I've applied organic fertilizer to the patch. It's just lovely that it rain frequently in those period for I don't have to water the patch.

The result is very much encouraging. The grass start seeding, new leave blades sprouting, and stolons creeping to fill the area.

Pearl Grass Recovery - Part 1

Some time in 2005, I laid in my backyard some sod of pearl grass and it grew very well and healthy.

However, some time in 2006, I decided to have a backyard vegetable garden. Since then, that patch of pearl grass was abused. Pots of plant were place on the patch. My children and I even stepped through the patch to reach and work at the planter box next to it. I could not remember how the grass looked during those years of abused but I guess it sure was pretty bad.
